A photography exhibition with a deep focus on a cause
The second weekend of December 2016 watched this city give back to the ones that love to capture her in various moods, forms and times. Picturesque 2.0 organised by the photographic society, Fram-A-Gine, was a photography exhibition with a difference.
Not only did it aim to reward and recognise photographers for their art, but also aimed to contribute towards the cause of children’s education.
Inaugurated on 9th December, the photography exhibition continued till 11th at Jamini Roy Gallery, ICCR (Kolkata).
According to the organizers, proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to the leading child rights organisation of the country, CRY – Child Rights and You, towards the cause of children’s education.
The exhibition was inaugurated by 20 children from the volunteer intervention areas of CRY. These children had undergone training in photography, and took keen interest in the subject. For Fram-A-Gine, a photographers’ group with a focus on social change, the children were their heroes. The 67 photographs exhibited at the venue were up for auctioning.
The exhibition marked the second anniversary of the group’s inception. To celebrate the second birthday with a bang, the organisation ran a online photo contest for two months (from Sept 1 to Oct 30).
The contest received an overwhelming response from both amateur and professional photographers, as more than 1700 photographs swarmed in through email from India and the neighbouring countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. Judges Amitava Chandra, Kallol Majumder and Subir Basak selected the top 30 from the entries.
Along with these, there were four photo-essays captured by the members of the organisation. The top three entries, Suvankar Sen (First - Kolkata, India), Adeel Chishti (Second – Lahore, Pakistan) and Raju Ghosh (Third – Kolkata, India) were awarded as a part of the initiative.
