Damascus/Xinhua/UNI: The Turkey-backed Syrian rebels on Friday kidnapped 25 civilians in the northeastern province of Hasakah, state news agency SANA reported.

The civilians were taken from their village of Ahras in the countryside of Ras al-Ayn city in the northwestern countryside of Hasakah, said the report.

A group of rebels took the civilians to an unknown destination while another group looted their homes, it said.

Turkey and the rebel groups did not immediately comment on the alleged incident.

Turkish forces and Turkey-backed rebel groups captured Ras al-Ayn from the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces following an offensive by Turkey in October 2019.
