Sri Lanka imposes curfew in eastern city effective immediately after three explosions

Moscow, Apr 27 (Sputnik/UNI) Sri Lanka has instated a curfew effective immediately in its eastern city of Kalmunai following three explosions in the area, local media reported, citing police.

According to Hiru News outlet, earlier in the day, while the Sri Lankan security forces were raiding a safe house where, based on information they received, terrorists were hiding, they were hit with gunfire and three explosions went off.


The three new explosions occurred in the wake of a series of coordinated blasts throughout Sri Lanka last week that shocked the world. The Easter Sunday bombings throughout the country's churches and luxury-hotels left hundreds dead and over 500 injured.


On Tuesday, Islamic State (IS, terrorist group banned in Russia) reportedly claimed responsibility for the attacks.


Sri Lanka launched a criminal investigation immediately after the attacks, already having arrested over 100 suspects.
