Islamabad, Sept 4 (IBNS): Pakistan's electoral college, formed by a joint sitting of the senate and the newly elected national and provincial assemblies, will elect the country's 13th President on Tuesday, local reports said.

The candidates for the post are Dr Arif Alvi of the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-(Nawaz) backed chief of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), Fazlur Rehman and senior Pakistan People's Party leader Aitzaz Ahsan.

The votes will be cast via a secret ballot.

According to the constitution, the new President is named a month prior to the incumbent's demit- which should have been done by Aug 9, however, owing to the recent general elections in the country, it remained incomplete.

Incumbent President Mamnoon Hussain’s last day in office is Sept 9.

The presidential election will be held simultaneously at the Parliament House, Islamabad and the four provincial assemblies between 10am to 4pm local time, Dawn News reported.
