Pakistan: PTI's female leaders Shireen Mazari, Yasmin Rashid arrested

Police have arrested senior PTI leaders Dr Shireen Mazari and Dr Yasmin Rashid during raids conducted in the Pakistani cities of Islamabad and Lahore.

According to officials, the Islamabad police raided Shireen Mazari's house during the early hours of Friday. Her arrest comes after a series of arrests of several other PTI leaders, including Imran Khan, Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Ali Mohammad Khan, and Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, reports Geo News.

All of these leaders other than Imran Khan were arrested under section three of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), the news channel reported.

According to PTI, former Punjab health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid was also arrested by cops as police crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders continued ever since the detention of former PM and party chief Imran Khan.

Pakistan Supreme Court Thursday called Imran Khan's arrest by the country's top anti-corruption body 'illegal' and he should be released immediately amid violent protests by the former president's supporters.

Khan, who is facing corruption charges, is under the custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The order to bring Khan to the Supreme Court was issued by a three-member bench of Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, and Justice Athar Minallah.

After hearing Khan's request for relief, the country's apex court strongly criticised the NAB for arresting him from the Islamabad High Court's premises, where he had come to appear in a case.
