Indo-US agreement on public stockpiling of food reached: Minister

New Delhi, Nov 13 (IBNS): Union commerce minister Nirmala Sithamaran on Thursday said that India has reached an agreement with the United States on public stockpiling of food, media reports said.

She said the deal would pave the way for the implementation of a global trade facilitation deal that has been stalled for months.

“India and the US have resolved their differences on public stockholding of food… This opens the way for implementation of the World Trade Organization (WTO) trade facilitation deal,” she said.

The Union minister said the proposals will be reviewed by the WTO's General Council. She also hoped that the approval would clear the way for India to sign a protocol enabling implementation of the trade accord, reports said.
