Islamabad: Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and all characters involved in the "conspiracy" against the nation are guilty of high treason and should be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution, reports The Express Tribune.

Sharif's remarks came after President Arif Alvi approved the advice of PM Imran to dissolve the National Assembly.

"Today, a man obsessed with power trampled the Constitution," Nawaz wrote on his official Twitter handle.

Nawaz, who is also the supreme leader of the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N), said that Imran Khan and all characters involved in the "conspiracy" against the nation are guilty of high treason and should be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution, reports The Express Tribune.

He warned that anyone involved in any wrongdoing with the country and desecration of the Constitution will be taken to task.

Earlier, Qasim Khan Suri – Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly – prorogued the session deeming the no-trust vote as "unconstitutional" on Sunday. Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Shebaz Sharif had also slammed the PM Khan, after the Deputy Speaker discontinued the session, saying “he has put the country into anarchy”.

"It is nothing short of a high treason. IK (Imran Khan) has pushed the country into anarchy. Niazi and his cohort will not be allowed to go scot-free," Sharif said on his twitter.

Sharif said that hope Supreme Court of the country will play its role to uphold the constitution.

"There will be consequences for blatant and brazen violation of the Constitution. Hope SC will play it's role to uphold the Constitution," Sharif had said.
