Hundreds with fake COVID-19 test results, vaccination proof tried to enter Canada: Border services

| @indiablooms | Dec 01, 2021, at 09:10 am

Ottawa/IBNS: Hundreds of suspected fake COVID-19 test results and vaccination records from people trying to enter the country have been intercepted by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

Till Oct 31, 374 suspected fake COVID-19 test results at 160 at airports and 187 at land crossings and  92 suspected fake proof-of-vaccination credentials were encountered by Canada border officials, a spokesperson for the agency told CBC.

A breakdown of the cases at the specific ports of entry or the possible countries of origin of the fraudulent documents has not been provided by the agency.

Non-Canadians could be denied entry but Canadians trying to enter the country even with fake COVID-19-related records are still allowed to enter, as they have the right to enter the country.

But once Canadian border officials pass on their information to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), it has the ability to investigate and issue fines.
