The Hindu community members in Bangladesh recently took out a procession in Dhaka city when they demanded the authority to accept their eight-point demand and extend the Durga Puja holidays.

They also demanded a speedy trial of those involved in communal violence.

The torch procession reportedly began from Central Shaheed Minar at 6pm and ended at Ramna Kali Temple in Dhaka.

Himel Dhar, who participated in the torch rally, told Dhaka Tribune: "Our eight-point demands include speedy trial tribunals in cases of attacks on minorities after the fall of the government and implementation a five-day holiday for Durga Puja.”

He further added: “We want compensation and rehabilitation of those affected by communal violence, enactment of minority protection law, formation of minority affairs ministry.”

The Hindu community will celebrate Durga Puja next month.

Bangladesh witnessed massive violence against the job quota system which led to the fall of the former Sheikh Hasina-led government last month.

During the fall of the former government, videos emerged on social media and local newspapers reported that radicals targeted Hindu houses and business establishments.

Former PM Sheikh Hasina fled to India.
