Beijing, Oct 7 (IBNS): At least one person was killed in an earthquake, which measured 6.6 on the Richter scale, that hit southwest China Tuesday night, media reports said.

The quake left at least 19 others injured.

"Many houses collapsed and we are investigating the casualties. The aftershocks seem non-stopping," an official with the town's Mangfei village told Xinhua.

The telecommunication service is occasionally disrupted, he added.

"The quake at 9:49 p.m. (Beijing Time), with a focal depth of five kilometers, jolted the Jinggu Dai and Yi Autonomous County with a population of 290,000, said an official with the county's publicity department," China's Xinhua news agency reported.
