Mackenzie/Edmonton, Jan 3 (IBNS): Natural gas supply remained at a critical condition amid the cold freezing temperatures in Mackenzie County of Alberta, a province in Western Canada.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday , the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) said the condition will remain similar for several more days.

"The natural gas supply to the region remains at a critical level and the problem will persist for several more days" the AEMA said in the statement.

However the official said the conditions are improving, media report said.

"Natural gas trucks are being used to help restore pressure in the system. Outages are being reduced as the system is slowly being restarted.," the AEMA added.

The AEMA also instructed the Alberta residents to minimize the use of natural gas till the next notice it puts up.

"Impacted residents are encouraged to stay with friends and family who have alternative heat sources.," it said.

A state of emergency was issued on Friday by Environment Canada, according to Global News.

The temperature even went down to as much as around -38 degree at some point with a feel like -48 degree.

Byron Peters, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Mackenzie County told Global News: "The warmer weather is anticipated to improve the supply of natural gas."

"The warmer weather, even though it’s still in the -20s, that will improve the ability to supply gas to our region and it will also result in somewhat reduced demand locally.," he added.
