Canada minister Karina Gould gives birth in office, creates history

Toronto, Mar 10 (IBNS): Creating history, Canadian minister of Democratic Institutions Karina Gould has given birth to a baby boy in office, media report said.

Gould became the first federal cabinet minister to give birth in office, report said.

Gould, who is a liberal MP from Burlington in Ontario, has informed the news of the birth of her boy Oliver on social media.

On a Facebook post, Gould has informed that she and Oliver are fully fit and healthy.

She also said she will be taking a break from her office for now.

She said: "I will be spending time with my family now, but I look forward to returning to work when I am ready to resume my duties as Canada’s Minister of Democratic Institutions."

In her absence, Gould's portfolio will be looked after by minister Scott Brison with the assistance of parliamentary secretary Andy Fillmore.

Congratulating Gould and her husband Alberto, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted, "Welcome, Oliver! Congratulations, Karina & Alberto. I can’t wait to meet him."

Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer tweeted, "Congrats @karinagould and Alberto from our Conservative team. Welcome to the world, Oliver!"
