Canada: Federal government might introduce legislation to force stop Post workers' strike

Ottawa, Nov 21 (IBNS): The federal government might introduce a legislation to force stop the strike of Canadian Post workers, media reports said.

Canadian Labour Minister Patty Hajdu on Wednesday morning said the government is extremely serious about the matter.

She further said as quoted by CTV News, "I really don’t want to have to use back-to-work legislation. I don’t believe that’s where the best deal can come from. But having said that, this is a really busy time of year."

Canada Post has also warned that the strike has left it in a situation whether it can't guarantee timely delivery of a single parcel.

Though she declined to say the time of introducing the legislation, Hajdu said she would prefer a natural agreement between postal agency and union.

Hajdu has been quoted by CTV News, "What I need to see is substantial and meaningful resolution to this issue."

“Our economy needs Canada Post to be able to function in a smooth way.”

The government has also appointed a special mediator with whom Hajdu, as she said, will be in regular touch to know the progress in contact talks.
