Barack Obama nominates judge Merrick Garland to Supreme Court

| | Mar 17, 2016, at 03:30 am
Washington, Mar 16 (IBNS) President Barack Obama on Wednesday named Merrick Garland as the next US Supreme Court Justice, officials said.

He currently serves as Chief Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals in D.C., a court to which he was confirmed with majority support from both parties in the U.S. Senate in 1997.

Now presiding as Chief Judge, Judge Garland has more federal judicial experience than any Supreme Court nominee in history.

"Today, I am nominating Chief Judge Merrick Brian Garland to join the Supreme Court," The White House quoted Obama as saying.

Obama picked his name  over Indian American Sri Srinivasan as his nominee.
