Kabul, Jan 21 (IBNS): The Taliban attack on special forces’ base in central Maidan's Wardak province of Afghanistan on Monday has left over 100 security personnel dead, media reports said.

The bombing happened at around 7:30am after a gunfight between militants and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel stationed in the Bagh-i-Zanana area of the provincial capital, reported Pajhwok Afghan News.

Mohibullah Sharifzai, a government spokesman, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News that it was a suicide car attack, saying a second car bombing was thwarted.

A third suicide attacker was frustrated by security forces soon after the blast, he told Afghanistan-based news agency.

Some of the injured were in provincial hospitals.

The Taliban claimed credit for the complex attack, the report said.
