Balkh/IBNS: At least 18 people were injured in an explosion that rocked Afghanistan's Balkh province on Tuesday, media reports said.

Adelshah Adel, a spokesaman for the provincial police told Khaama Press that an explosives-laden bicycle went off in Mazar-e Sharif city, the provincial capital of Balkh province which injured at least 18 civilians.

No individual or terror group claimed responsibility for the incident.

Meanwhile, the search for peace will remain of “paramount importance” to Afghanistan as the country awaits the outcome of the recent presidential election, the top UN official in the country told the Security Council on Monday.

Tadamichi Yamamoto, head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), updated ambassadors on developments since voting took place in late September.

“When the election is completed with credibility, it will become a milestone in the history of establishing a representative political system of the country”, he stated.

Yamamoto explained that preliminary results are yet to be announced as stakeholders want to ensure the electoral process was as transparent and credible as possible.
