Tokyo, Dec 16 (IBNS): At least 41 people have been injured in an explosion that took place at a restaurant in northern Japan's Sapporo city on Sunday, reports said.

The BBC quoted Japanese police saying one of the injured was in a critical condition.

The reason for the blast is not known yet but some reports suggest it could have been a gas leak.

According to The Japan Times, the explosion in a Japanese-style pub shattered in glass windows in nearby buildings.

“I heard a ‘bang,’ which sounded like thunder, and my condo was shaken,” the report quoted a man in his 50s who lives nearby, as saying.

The area has been cordoned off.
