Mahesh Sharma takes stock of the working of Victoria Memorial, Asiatic Society in Kolkata

Kolkata, July 7 (IBNS) Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge), Culture (Independent Charge) and Civil Aviation, Mahesh Sharma, visited the Victoria Memorial Hall and Asiatic Society in Kolkata during his day long visit to the city o Tuesday.
On visiting the Victoria Memorial, an institution of 94 years, the Minister took a round to have a glimpse of the 28,394 objects including some priceless oil-paintings, on display at the historic museum. Addressing the officials, the Minister said that the Ministry of Culture is very keen to uphold the glory of the prestigious institution.

He also assured to consider a demand of Rs.65 lakh for the up-gradation of its attractive Light and Sound Show to the 3D version.

Later, Mahesh Sharma visited the Asiatic Society, the foremost institution of national heritage in the country, to take stock of the situation there.

The Minister held a meeting with the members, staff and officers of the organization to assess the areas in which improvement is required .

He assured them a possible two-fold increase in the annual allocation for the great institution.

Sharma also discussed the various problems and issues concerning the Museum and other wings of Asiatic Society and assured all help to the officials to sort them out at the earliest.
