Jammu and Kashmir witnessing huge tourist turnout after snowfall

Srinagar: After witnessing a slowdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing a tourist influx in recent times, media reports said on Monday.

The lack of footfall in the region due to the spread of the pandemic in the past couple of months reportedly hit the tourism business sector in the region.

"We've suffered a loss in the previous years but as the situation is improving, our businesses are reviving," Rafiq Ahmad, a tourist cab driver, told ANI.

However, the snowfall in the Kashmir Valley in recent times also helped to attract tourists in large numbers.

"The visit to Kashmir in winters is worth the cost as the environment and the people are charming," Pankaj, a tourist, told ANI.

Sarmad Hafeez, Tourism Secretary, said winter tourism is doing well in the region.

"Winter tourism is doing well and the quality and quantity of snowfall is a blessing. We have the most beautiful key destinations in the world like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Tulip garden, Srinagar, etc," Sarmad Hafeez told ANI.

"The state government is planning some mega-events in Gulmarg and Pahalgam to attract more tourists," he added.
