Ban on passengers carrying laptops on US bound flights from certain countries ends

Dubai, Jul 20 (IBNS): United States ended the ban on passengers carrying laptops on-board US bound flights from certain airports in the Middle East and North Africa, according to media reports.

The ban in place over the past four months has been one of the much debated travel bans imposed by President Donald Trump and his administration.

Riyadh's King Khalid airport was the last of 10 airports to be exempted from the ban, reported BBC.

"You can now use your electronic devices onboard #SAUDIA flights to the #USA," tweeted Saudia Airlines.

The airlines said that its two hub airports which serve the US have received clearance from the US Department of Homeland Security, according to media reports.

Meanwhile, since Wednesday,  the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), US, has started implementing new enhanced security measures, which requires enhanced screening of personal electronic devices such as tablets and laptops, among other things.

All personal electronic devices larger than a smartphone will need to be easily accessible and have all cases, cover and/or packaging removed, said the Air Canada website.

Media reports also quoted Mexico's civil aviation authority as saying that airlines in Mexico will now subject passengers on direct US-bound flights to extra security checks for portable electronic devices larger than a phone.
