Vivek Oberoi apologises for his meme on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, deletes tweet
Mumbai, May 21 (IBNS): Amid outrage over his meme on actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi on Tuesday issued an apology and also deleted the controversial tweet.
Oberoi said on Twitter, "Sometimes what appears to be funny and harmless at first glance to one, may not be so to others. I have spent the last 10 years empowering more than 2000 underprivileged girls, I cant even think of being disrespectful to any woman ever."

Oberoi, who reportedly dated Asishwarya Rai Bachchan in early 2000s, posted a meme where he compared the upcoming Lok Sabha poll results with the personal life of the actress.
In the meme, Aishwarya's former beau Salman Khan, husband Abhishek Bachchan and daughter Aaradhya were also present.
Oberoi had posted the meme with the caption that read: "Haha! creative! No politics here....just life ."
The National Commission for Women on Tuesday sent a notice to Oberoi for posting an “insulting” and “misogynist” meme on Twitter.
In its notice, the panel said the post was “extremely offensive, unethical and shows disrespect towards the dignity and respect of women in general.”
The panel had directed Oberoi to give a "satisfactory explanation" to the Commission on the matter.
“You have made insulting and misogynistic post on twitter carrying picture of a minor girl and a woman. It has been reported that you had drawn a sly comparison between the poll result and a woman’s personal life,” read the notice.
The post has been condemned by several people so far.
NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma tweeted, "This tweet is absolutely Disgusting, distasteful, and degrading a women. @NCWIndia will be serving notice to @vivekoberoi."
Actress Sonam Kapoor said: "Disgusting and classless."
Swati Maliwal, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women, tweeted: "It is hardly hilarious. It's crass, disgusting and reveals the sick mentality of its 'creator'@vivekoberoi. Evident that the man lacks everything - political as well as life skills."
Aishwariya and Oberoi had worked together in 2004 movie Kyun! Ho Gaya Na.
