Tollywood ex-hot pair Prosenjit-Rituparna team up again after 14 years
Kolkata, Aug 16 (IBNS) In a significant title ''Prakton' (ex), storyline of which both of them are loath to divulge, Tollywood superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta are teaming up in a film by Belaseshe director duo Shiboprosad Mukhopadhyay-Nandita Roy.
The duo were a hot onscreen pair of the 1990s till they broke up over many rumours and were not seen sharing screen space again.
Asked why the film is titled so, Prosenjit whose last film with Rituparna was way back in 2001, tells IBNS, "You have to see the film to know who is ex to whom and how." (ke kibhabe kar prakton jante hole dekhte habe).
"But ex definitely plays a role here, in whether the ex-factor to make the film's box office run or in terms of ex-relations," Prosenjit chuckles inviting peal of laughter among the media corp at the film's announcement party at Lalit Great Eastern here.
Asked why it took a long 14 years for the "hot jodi" of mainstream Bengali cinema to reunite, Prosenjit says, "Yes me and Ritu did not work together for all these years. But it was not borne out of any recorded decision that we won't be working again."
"We have left behind long back the time when we worked and delivered blockbusters like Sasurbari Zindabad as commercial film superstar pair. With Siboprosad and Nandita there can be the perfect vehicle as our comeback film fitting in our profile as two actors," the Baishe Srabon actor says.
Says Rituparna, who was also present at the 'newsbreak' event, "We had done 52 or more films together. Now it is in the fitness of things that we work together since we owe it to the audiences what we have become."
Shiboprosad, who was justifiably cagey about revealing the storyline except affirming it will bear their trademark style (Shiboprosad Mukhopadhyay-Nandita Roy), says there will be many more important names in the cast which will be unveiled in the days to come.
Hinting at the presence of Eros International senior officials, who are co-producing the film with Windows Production of the director duo and Atanu Roy Choudhury, Prosenjit says, "This augurs well to benchmark the Bengali film industry, which is rich in content, globally."
