Supreme Court rejects plea filed by Brahman Samaj of India against Ayushmann Khurrana's Article 15

New Delhi, July 8 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a plea filed against actor Ayushmann Khurrana's latest released Bollywood movie Article 15 and said the petitioner should instead approach the appropriate authority.

“Why don’t you approach the appropriate authority,” Justice Bobde asked the petitioner lawyer, as reported by The Hindu newspaper.

A Bench led by Justice S.A. Bobde gave the direction.

The plea was filed by the Brahman Samaj of India (BSOI).

The BSOI claimed that the film, which is currently making a strong performance at the Indian Box Office, contained casteist elements and was a concocted story portrayed as a true event.

"The plea said the film violated the constitutional spirit and sought a direction to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to cancel the certification granted to Benaras Media Works Pvt. Ltd," reported The Hindu.

Meanwhile, the movie is performing strong at the Box Office.

The movie has so far earned Rs. 46 crores till Monday.

"#Article15 braves new releases [#SpiderMan], holdover titles [#KabirSingh], cricket matches [#CWC19] and torrential rains, yet stays strong... Nears ₹ 50 cr mark... [Week 2] Fri 2.65 cr, Sat 4 cr, Sun 5.35 cr. Total: ₹ 46.21 cr. India biz," film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.
