Rishi Kapoor reveals he is now 'cancer free'

Mumbai, May 3 (IBNS): Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor on Friday finally revealed that he was battling with cancer for the past eight months and is presently free of the deadly disease.

In an interview with the Deccan Chronicle, Rishi Kapoor said: "My eighth month of treatment started on May 1 in the US. But God has been kind! I am in remission, meaning now I am cancer-free."

However, he still needs a bone marrow transplant which would take another two months for his treatment to be complete fully.

The 66-year-old thanked his fans and family with a special mention for his actress wife Neetu Kapoor for being his pillar of strength.

"Being in remission is a big thing and it's all because of my family and my fans prayers and duas that have worked. I thank them all," he was quoted as saying.

Speaking about Neetu, he said: "Neetu has stood by me like a rock. Otherwise I am too difficult a person to handle as far as food and drink are concerned... My kids Ranbir and Ridhima have really shouldered my problems."

The family had managed to keep Rishi Kapoor's illness a secret for a long time.

It was only when Neetu posted in her new year wish that: "Hope in future cancer is only a zodiac sign," media speculations surfaced that her husband might be battling cancer.

Earlier on Tuesday, filmmaker Rahul Rawail (director of Betaab, Anjam and Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya) also declared Rishi Kapoor is cancer free on his Facebook page.
