'Dark Chocolate' premieres in Kolkata

In 2015, Indrani Mukherjea, wife of media baron Peter Mukherjea, was arrested by Maharashtra Police allegedly for the disappearance and subsequent murder of Sheena Bora, Indrani's daughter from a previous marriage. Later, Peter Mukherjea and a few other accomplices were also arrested.

The character of Ishani Banerjee modelled after Indrani Mukherjea, is played by Bollywood actress, Mahima Chaudhry while actress Riya Sen plays the role of Rina Bardhan (Sheena Bora).

The premier was attended by Director Aginidev Chatterjee and the film's cast.

Speaking about her character in the film, Mahima Chaudhry said: “It is a very strange character, something that nobody understood and unlike any other mother portrayed in Indian cinema. So it was rather unusual and portraying it was really challenging.”

Mahima, who is working with any Tollywood director for the first time, recounted her experience and said: “Agnidev is very nice and relaxed. He is wonderful to work with and I had a great experience. He used to adjust a lot during shooting.”

While asked about the significance of the title, Agnidev said: “The title 'Dark Chocolate' is primarily a metaphor for power and money. Crime in this film is like a dark chocolate which you cannot avoid but at the same time leaves a bitter taste.”

Upholding the dark shades of the film, he added: “It is a mirror to society. The society is getting darker so are my subjects in the film.”

Mumtaz Sorcar, who is playing a role of a strict police officer, said: “It is really tough for the character in the film to pin down the high society people and solve the case.”
