Dabaru: Grandmaster Surya Sekhar Ganguly says 'Point of view of audience with no knowledge of chess or my background will be most interesting'

Ganguly along with his family joined the trailer launch with the lead cast comprising veteran actor Dipankar De, Tollywood superstars Chiranjit Chakraborty, Rituparna Sengupta and others.

Speaking at the launch, Ganguly categorised the audience in expressing his curiosity to know the audience's reaction.

He says, "I am curious to know about the audience's reactions. From my perspective, I think three categories of audience will watch the film. First, people who have known me since childhood. They will relate to the film to some extent, though not fully because it's not a biopic but a story inspired by my life.

"This set of audience is very small. Second, the chess community, who will be attracted to the game, is shown in the film. Third and final, the maximum audience, who have no clue to either chess or my personal background."

"I feel the third category of audience's point of view will be the most interesting. I loved Shibu's (Shiboprosad Mukherjee) remark where he told me that he wanted a lot of people to become interested in chess by watching this film," Ganguly added.

Inspired by the remarkable life of Grandmaster Surya Sekhar Ganguly, 'Dabaru' is a captivating tale of determination and triumph, following the journey of a young chess prodigy named Souro as he emerges from the streets of North Kolkata to achieve greatness.

Arghya Basu Roy, who was the protagonist in Windows Productions' 2017 film 'Posto', plays the central character.

Apart from Dipankar De, Chirajit and Rituparna, the film features Kharaj Mukherjee, Koushik Sen in pivotal roles.

Produced by Windows Productions, filmmaker Shiboprosad Mukherjee is involved in the film as the creative producer.

The film will hit theatres on May 10.
