Workshop on Artificial Intelligence begins at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar/IBNS: A week-long virtual workshop on 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Solution for Optimum Utilization of Power and Energy' began at the National Institute of Technology, (NIT) Srinagar on Monday, and the inaugural session was attended by more than 150 participants from across the country.

The workshop was sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in collaboration with the ATAL academy organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering, NIT Srinagar with Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Zargar and Dr Kushal M Jagtap as the coordinators of the workshop.

The inaugural session of the workshop was presided over by the Director, Prof.(Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal. He said there is a need to optimize energy at every level and Artificial Intelligence solutions for more innovations.

Prof. Sehgal said artificial intelligence can be applied to maximize power generation whether it be thermal, hydro, nuclear or non-conventional power sources like solar, wind, geothermal, tidal, etc.

He said applying AI can minimize transmission losses, power thefts and then take it to the consumer level for optimal use of energy. The consumption of energy is at its peak following the growing population, materialistic needs of human society, he said.

"In the future NIT Srinagar can collaborate with other institutions so that we can gain from each other's experience. We can have a mutual understanding of learning on different technical aspects," he further said.

Dr Bazaz said the five-day-long workshop will add more knowledge to all the participants as we have invited resource persons from IIT's, NIT's and PSU's for the same.

During the inaugural session, Dr Shekhar Kelapure, Consultant and Energy auditor said everywhere there are challenges but we need to resolve them with technology and innovations.

The week-long workshop is moderated and hosted by Dr Kushal M Jagtap from the Department of  Electrical Engineering.
