West Bengal Police's Commanding Officer Debashree Chatterjee dies in road mishap

Kolkata/IBNS: Kolkata Police's first woman Officer-in-Charge (OC) Debashree Chatterjee, who was posted on deputation to the West Bengal Police as the Commanding Officer (CO) of state armed force's 12th Battalion, lost her life after her SUV rammed into a parked truck on Durgapur Expressway at Helda area under Dadpur Police Station limits in Kolkata's neighbouring Hooghly district on Friday early morning, reports said.

Chatterjee's car's driver, Manoj Saha, and her bodyguard, Tapas Barman, were also killed in the tragic road mishap.

According to reports, the senior WBPS official's speeding SUV hit a parked truck from behind at around 6:30 am. when she was returning to her Kolkata residence from West Bengal Armed Police Force's 12th Battalion's headquarter at Dabgram in North Bengal's Siliguri.     

After being rescued, Debashree Chatterjee, her driver and bodyguard were rushed to Chinsurah Imambara Hospital where three were declared brought dead.

Condoling the death of the senior police officer, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote on Twitter, "Deeply grieved to hear about the demise of Debashree Chatterjee, CO 12th Bn in an unfortunate road accident on Durgapur Expressway. She was a KP officer posted on deputation to WB Police. The driver & her guard also died in the mishap. My condolences to the family of the deceased."

"With profound sorrow, we offer a final salute to Debashree Chatterjee, Commandant, 12th Battalion, SAP, who passed away in a road accident earlier today. Hon’ble CM Mamata Banerjee joins us in mourning the untimely demise of one of our finest officers," West Bengal Police tweeted.
