New Delhi, Aug 19 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced her government will donate Rs. 10 crore to the Kerala Chief Ministers relief fund to help people of the flood-hit state.

"My heart goes out to the people of Kerala battling #KeralaFloods In this hour of crisis, to stand beside the flood-affected people of Kerala, we have decided to make a contribution of Rs Ten Crore to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund," Mamata Banerjee tweeted.

"We are also ready to extend all other assistance and support that may be needed to tackle the calamity. We pray that our brothers and sisters of Kerala resume normal life soon," she said.

Life in Kerala has been badly hit by incessant rains and resulting floods over the past few days.

Over 300 people have lost their lives in the state so far.

Bringing some relief to the state of Kerala, rains have subsided finally, allowing the authorities to limit the red alert to only three of the 14 districts.

However, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains for Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts.

According to the Met Department, the conditions in Kerala should normalise by Sunday.

Currently, 6,61,887 people have been shifted to 3,466 relief camps.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Kerala and said the Centre is providing all possible help, including financial assistance and social security schemes for the people.

Expressing grief and sorrow over the deaths and damage caused to property due to floods in Kerala, the PM had announced ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh per person to the next kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to those seriously injured from PMNRF.
