WB municipal election: Re-poll on Fri, counting on Sat

Kolkata, Oct 8 (IBNS): West Bengal state election commission on Thursday announced to conduct re-polls in few booths in Bidhannagar (Salt Lake) and Asansol on Friday.
The commission has also set the counting date on Saturday.
 
Newly appointed interim state election commissioner Alapon Banerjee said in a press conference here, "I met the district magistrates and police commissioners of Bidhannagar, Howrah and Asansol today. After the meeting and looking on the evidences and reports from the polling officers, we have decided to conduct re-polls in nine booths in Bidhannagar (Ward no. 9, 33, 34 and 41) and two booths in Asansol (Ward no. 14 and 75)."
 
"We will not conduct re-poll in Howrah. The security arrangements in the polling stations will be tight during the re-polltomorrow. The results of the civic-polls will be declared on Saturday (Oct 10) and the counting will be started from 8 am. on that day," he added.
 
Amid violence, civic polls were conducted in Bidhannagar, Howrah and Asansol municipal corporations on Oct 3.
 
After the election was concluded, former state election commissioner Susanta Ranjan Upadhyaya resigned from his post and West Bengal transport secretary Alapon Banerjee has been appointed as interim election commissioner.
