Two GNLA militants killed, six suspected Maoists arrested in Assam

Guwahati, Aug 7 (IBNS) : Two hardcore militants of Meghalaya's rebel group Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) were killed in a gun battle with security forces in Assam's Goalpara district along the Meghalaya border on Thursday, police said.
Based on intelligence input, a joint team of police and army 19th Dogra Regiment launched operation at Khangkhal area near Hudakoona of Goalpara district.
 
“When security personnel reached the remote area the militants who hide at the area started firing and forced us to exchanged bullet,” Goalpara district SP Nitul Gogoi said.
 
The militant duo was killed on spot and they are yet to be identified.
 
Security forces have recovered three hand grenades, an IED, two pistols with magazines and several rounds of live ammunition in possession from slain militants.
 
On other hand, police arrested six suspected Maoists from Nalbari district on Wednesday night.
 
Nalbari police said that among the arrested suspected Maoists, five hail from Jharkhand and another from Bihar.
