Two former NLFB militants killed in Assam encounter

Guwahati: Two former militants of National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) were killed in an encounter with police in Assam’s Chirang district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The encounter took place at Khungring area under Runikhata police station in Chirang district.

One Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) was injured during the gun fight.

A senior police official said that, a team of Chirang district police had launched operation at Choudhaguri village near Khungring at around 1-30 am on Tuesday.

"Two former militants of NLFB killed during the encounter and Additional SP Prakash Medhi was also injured. The Additional SP received bullet injuries in his right hand wrist and he was rushed to hospital,” the official said.

Police had recovered two 9 mm pistols from the encounter site.
