TR Zeliang sworn in as Nagaland CM again, NPF expelled Zeliang for 6 years

Guwahati, July 19 (IBNS): A new twist was added in the ongoing political drama in Nagaland as TR Zeliang on Wednesday took oath as the Chief Minister of the north eastern Indian state after Governor PB Acharya dismissed former CM Shurhozelie Liezietsu after he failed to turn up in the special emergent session of the state assembly to take a floor test.

After Liezietsu failed to turn up for floor test, Governor Acharya appointed TR Zeliang as the new CM of Nagaland.

He was sworn in as the new CM at around 3 pm on Wednesday at Darbar Hall, Raj Bhavan in Kohima.

Governor PB Acharya administered oath to Zeliang.

The governor has asked Zeliang, who claimed to support of 47 legislators, to prove his majority by July 22.

Meanhile, Zeliang said in the letter sent to the Governor that he will prove his majority on July 20.

Governor had taken the decision to appoint Zeliang as the new CM after Nagaland state assembly speaker Imtiwapang Aier submitted his report to the Governor and stating that former CM Liezietsu didn’t turn up in the special emergent session of the state assembly on Wednesday morning.

Zeliang, who was stepped down in February last in this year following large scale of violence created as well as several groups opposed to hold the civic poll in the state with 33 per cent reservation for women.

On the other hand, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Wednesday had expelled Zeliang from the party for a period of 6 years.
