Three Indian civilians injured as Pakistan violates ceasefire in North Kashmir

Baramulla,, Feb 20 (IBNS) : Three civilians, including a woman,  were injured during an exchange of gunfire between Indian and Pakistani armies following ceasefire violation from across the border  in north Kashmir’s Uri along the Line of Control on Monday, officials said.

Srinagar based defence spokesman Rajesh Kalia issued a press statement late Monday evening and said the  “Indian Army are replying befittingly."

“Unprovoked ceasefire violation initiated by Pakistan posts in Uri sector at 17:15 hours (Monday) our troopers retaliating appropriately, unconfirmed reports indicate causality on Pak troops”, the spokesperson said.

"Pak posts are now targeting civilian population in Churunda village near the Line of Control,” the spokesman said.

Jammu and Kashmir Police DIG SP Vaid said on twitter that the inhabitants of two villages in the locality have been removed to safer places.

"In view of unprovoked firing by #Pakistani troops in civilian areas of Churanda Silikote of #URI , inhabitants of villages of Thajal and Soni have been moved to safer locations. @JmuKmrPolice on spot and helping out the people," the tweet said.

According to locals, Indian and Pakistani soldiers resorted to firing at Churanda, the last village on the Line of Control in Uri located on a mountain beneath Hajipeer at around 5pm on Monday. This was followed by  heavy shelling  from both sides that left three civilians injured.
