Tension persists over Dera Sachcha Sauda chief's film

New Delhi, Jan 16 (IBNS) About 60 people, including supporters of the Indian National Lok Dal, were detained by police on Friday as a preventive measure against clashes between followers of the Dera Sachcha Sauda, a religious sect and their opponents over the release of a controversial film.

Reports said buses filled with the supporters of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who stars in the film 'MSG , the message of God', arrived at the Leisure Valley ground in Gurgaon for a special screening of the film.

The film is set to be released on January 23.

Sikh groups have been demanding a ban on the movie objecting to the glorification of the Dera leader, who has several criminal cases against him.

In Delhi, members of the  Shiromani Akali Dal  protested outside the BJP headquarters in Delhi, demanding a ban on the film.

Reports of protests also poured in fromother  cities of Punjab and Haryana against the film.  In Amritsar, the Rapid Action Force held flag marches to maintain law and order.

The film Ram Rahim riding motorbikes and sending bad guys flying. The content  has prompted the chief of the Censor Board Leela Samson to  step down .

Samson said the film that shows the Dera chief as a swashbuckling hero was not suitable for public viewing and  alleged corruption and interference of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry in her resignation letter.

In a statement  Samson cited "interference, coercion and corruption of panel members and officers of the organisation appointed by the Ministry" as the cause of her resignation.

However,  Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore countering the allegation saying that there was no government interference in clearing the film.
