Hyderabad/IBNS: A missionary school in Telangana's Mancherial district was vandalised after students were questioned over their saffron attire, triggering a massive row in the south Indian state, media reports said.

The incident happened at Blessed Mother Teresa High School in Kannepalli village, which is about 250 kilometers away from the state capital Hyderabad.

When Principal Jaimon Joseph questioned some students over their saffron attires, they replied that they were observing a 21-day ritual, Hanuman Deeksha.

The Principal then asked the particular students to bring their parents to have a talk on it.

The matter went out of hand after the incident went viral on social media with some claiming the Principal was opposing Hindu attire in the school.

A mob of saffron clad men then attacked the school with Jai Shri Ram slogans, leading the teachers to plead to them to stop.

Some reports claimed Principal Joseph was beaten up and forcibly applied Tilak on his forehead.

The protesters have demanded an apology from the institution.

Following complaints from the students' parents, police have registered a case against the Principal and one other on grounds of hurting religious sentiments and discrimination on the basis of religion.
