Spirit of New India: PM Modi lauds Indian women's hockey team

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday lauded the "spirit" of the Indian women's hockey team, which narrowly missed a bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Modi tweeted, "We narrowly missed a medal in Women’s Hockey but this team reflects the spirit of New India- where we give our best and scale new frontiers. More importantly, their success at #Tokyo2020 will motivate young daughters of India to take up Hockey and excel in it. Proud of this team."

Indian women's hockey team went down fighting against Great Britain in the crucial bronze medal match of the Tokyo Games 2020 here on Thursday.

Britain defeated India 4-3 in the clash.

The eves finished fourth in the major sports event. This is India's best-ever finish in the grand event.
