New Delhi, May 22 (IBNS): Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi on Thursday refused to accept the resignation of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who offered to step down taking full responsibility for the Congress' poor performance in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, reports said.
Gogoi on Thursday met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi in the national capital to submit his resignation.

The final decision on Gogoi will reportedly be taken after the Congress President consults the Assam MLAs.

The 78-year-old was elected Chief Minister of Assam in 2001 after he led the Indian National Congress to victory in the state elections.

He has since led the party to a record three consecutive electoral victories in the state as Chief Minister.
