Silence on triple talaq like Draupadi episode : UP CM Yogi Adityanath
According to media reports, Adityanath drew an analogy between the present situation over the contentious issue and the silence senior noblemen maintained when Draupadi was being dishonoured in the episode of the epic Mahabharata.
"There's a new debate in the country...Some are silent on the issue," Adityanath said at the launch of a book on former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar.
"When I see people silent on this burning issue, the episode from Mahabharat comes to my mind. When Draupadi was disrobed in the king's court she asked - Who is responsible for this? Vidura said those who have committed the crime, those who are the accomplices and those who were silent are equally responsible."
"The system makes them stand in court with those guilty, the supporters and with those who are silent," he said.
The CM said even Chandrashekhar was not in favour of triple talaq.
His comments came at a time the Supreme Court is hearing petitions challenging the practice of triple talaq and the Muslim Personal Law Board is of the opinion that the judiciary has nothing to do with the issue.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also raised the issue at a programme in Gujarat and said the exploitation of Muslim women should end.
