Showing up is half the battle: Rahul Gandhi takes dig at Narendra Modi's press conference

Gandhi tweeted, "Congratulations Modi Ji. Excellent Press Conference! Showing up is half the battle. Next time Mr Shah may even allow you to answer a couple of questions. Well done!"

After the end of the poll campaign for the 17th Lok Sabha elections, Modi on Friday accompanied Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s national president Ami Shah at a press conference but deflected two questions which came from journalists to his party chief.

However, he gave a statement saying, "The government this time will return with full majority." "I believe we can say some things proudly today. We are the biggest democracy in the world," Modi said.

Taunting the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA)-led government, Modi said: "There was a time when IPL had to be taken out of the country for polls. However, when there is an adept government, we can manage to hold elections, observe Ramzan, Easter and more." 

This is the first time Modi held a press conference after becoming the Prime Minister in 2014. In last few years, Gandhi has been attacking the BJP leader for not holding any press conference but only giving "staged interviews" to media houses.

Holding a press conference almost at the same time when BJP's briefing was going on, the Congress chief once again attacked Modi over the controversial Rafale deal and urged the Prime Minister to have a debate with him.

The campaign for the last phase of Lok Sabha polls ended on Friday as voting will take place on May 19.

The results of the polls will be out on May 23.
