Seven noted persons of NE India selected for Padma Awards
Former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno Agitok Sangma has been conferred the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India.
Sangma is become the Meghalaya’s first recipient to be awarded the nation’s second highest civilian honour.
Apart from PA Sangma, six others have been conferred the Padma Sri award.
Tripura girl Dipa Karmakar, Assamese Scientist Dr Jitendra Nath Goswami, Assamese writer Eli Ahmed, Manipuri musician Laishram Birendrakumar Singh, theatre artist Wareppa Naba Nil, Sikkim writer Birkha Bahadur Limbo Muringla have been selected for the India’s fourth highest civilian honour.
Dr. Jitendranath Goswami, hailing from Upper Assam town Jorhat was the Chief Scientist of Chandrayaan-1 and also was developer of this project.
Goswami also served as a director of Physical Research Laboratory situated at Ahmadabad, Gujarat and associated with Chandrayaan-2 and Mangalyaan.
On the other hand, 85-year old Eli Ahmed, the noted assamese writer was awarded the Bal Sahitya Purashkar in 2015.
