Seven killed as chopper carrying pilgrims to Vaishno Devi crashes in Jamm and Kashmir

| | Nov 23, 2015, at 08:23 pm
Jammu, Nov 23 (IBNS) Six pilgrims and a woman pilot were killed when the helicopter carrying them to Vaishno Devi crashed in Jammu and Kashmir's Katra on Monday, reports said.
The aircraft -- which was returning from Sanjichat to Katra -- crashed soon after take-off and had caught fire.

Initial reports suggest that the  chopper could have crashed  due to the fog that prevented several flights from landing at the Jammu airport.

The helicopter belonged to the privately-run Himalayan Heli Services, which also runs choppers for the Chardham Yatra.

The bodies are being identified.  The pilot, Sumita Vijayan, was the chief pilot of the company.
