Rs. 375,000 crore invested in last three years to upgrade Indian Railways, says, Suresh Prabhu

Kolkata, June 10 (IBNS):Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu inaugurated commencement of Esplanade Metro Station’s construction work of Kolkata’s East-West Metro linkat a function at Howrah station on Saturday.

Prabhu also dedicated a number of railway projects and passenger amenities of Eastern, South Eastern and Metro Railways in the region at this programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said, since number of passengers is increasing, need is felt to improve infrastructure related works.

Highlighting the achievements of Indian Railways in the last three years, Prabhu said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid special attention to overhaul the Railways’ amenities and infrastructureas a part of modernization plan.

Rs. 375,000 crore has been invested in the last three years to improve the Railways’ condition.

Also, Rs. 70,000 crore has been allocated to accelerate the speed of trains up to 200 km per hour; he informed and added that measures have been taken to improve transparency.

Mechanized laundry system has been set up to ensure cleanliness in trains. 

A total of 16,500 km doubling of tracks has been completed in the last three years, he added.

Prabhu launched and inaugurated line doubling of Keshabpur-Mahishadal with electrification, Extended Platforms and Upgraded Stations in Santragachi-Amta Suburban section, extended full length platform shelter at 12 stations in Howrah-Kharagpur section, dedication of foot over bridge at Biramdih station, dedication of upgraded Garhjaipur station, inauguration of air-conditioned lounge at Digha railway station, inauguration of ATMs at Bankura, Purulia and Adra railway stations, inauguration of water vending machines at Purulia, Adra, Bankura and Bokaro Steel City stations, double lining between Beldanga and Cossimbazar in Sealdah division, 3rd lining between Gadadharpur and Tarapith Road stations in Howrah division, Foot over Bridge at 10 stations over Asansol  and Sealdah division, Escalator at Ballygunge station in Sealdah division, 2x50 KWp Solar Plant at Howrah area and providing LED lights at 175 stations over Eastern Railway.
