Rape is a political issue, we will continue to raise it: Rahul Gandhi

Bengaluru, May 10 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said rape and atrocities against women is a political issue and his party will continue to raise it.

Rahul made the comment while addressing a press conference on the last day of Karnataka poll campaign.

When asked whether Congress is politicising the issue of rape, Rahul said: "Rape and atrocities against women is absolutely a political issue.....Modi does not like to speak about fundamental issues but we will continue to raise it."

During the campaign trails, Rahul has repeatedly attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining silent on Kathua and Unnao rape cases.

He had also twisted Modi's government's slogan "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" to "Beti Bachao from BJP men".

Reacting to the personal attacks by Modi during the election campaigns, Rahul said: "Modi has anger against me which is his problem. It is not my problem."

In almost an-hour long press conference, Rahul has touched upon a series of issues in which the Congress president felt the central government failed.

Hitting out at the BJP government's foreign policy, the Congress president said: "Our foreign policy has been decimated."

Referring to Doklam issue, Rahul said: "I expected the PM in China to go there and speak about Doklam. He went there but didn't speak anything about Doklam. He spoke to Chinese President Xi Jinping but didn't speak about Doklam."

Countering Modi's accusation against Congress of using religion (Hinduism) in the polls, Rahul said the saffron outfit does not understand the meaning of "Hindu".

Sounding confident, Rahul said the Congress is sure of winning the Karnataka polls, which will be held on May 12.
