Ramdayal Uike joins BJP from Congress ahead of Chhattisgarh assembly polls

New Delhi, Oct 13 (IBNS):  Ramdayal Uike, the working president of Congress unit in election-bound Chhattisgarh, on Saturday rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He rejoined the BJP after ending his 15-year-old stint with the Congress.

He joined the party in the presence of BJP president Amit Shah and state CM Raman Singh.

Uike made the move at a time when the state is gearing up for the upcoming Assembly polls.

Uike, a tribal leader, who was a member of the BJP before joining the Congress, made his "ghar vapsi" (homecoming) at a formal programme in the state.

Shah is currently on a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh.

Uike was elected MLA of Pali Tanakhar in 2013 after winning with a margin of over 28,000 votes. He was appointed Congress Working President in January this year. Uike is a four-time lawmaker from Pali in Chhattisgarh.

The Congress has already suffered a setback in Chhattisgarh last month, when state party chief was caught in a sex CD controversy and was sent to jail.

18 of the 90 Assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh will vote on November 12, including the Maoist-affected Bastar and Rajnandgaon districts. The second phase of polling is on November 20.
