Rahul Gandhi visits flood hit Lakhimpur district in Assam

Guwahati, Aug 3 (IBNS): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that he will raise the issue of flood and erosion problem of Assam in the Parliament and will demand adequate relief and compensation to the flood affected people from the government.


While visiting the flood-hit Bogolajan and Amtola area and interacting with the flood affected people in the worst hit Lakhimpur district, Rahul promised the flood affected people that he will raise the issue in the Parliament.

"Since the Congress is not in power at the Centre as well as in Assam, we will try our best to raise the issue of flood and erosion problem in the Parliament. Most of flood affected people yet to receive any relief and compensation from the government. Government must ensure to provide relief and compensation immediately," Rahul said.

"I will fight for your rights," the Congress Vice President said while interacting with the flood affected people.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited the state and reviewed the devastating flood situation.

Modi had announced a total package of Rs 2350 crore for all the flood affected north eastern states.

Rahul Gandhi also took part in the last rites of former union minister Santosh Mohan Dev in Silchar, who was died at a private hospital in the Barak Valley city following his prolonged ailments.
