New Delhi, Jun 11 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Monday to meet former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Vajpayee was admitted to AIIMS Monday morning on the advice of doctors, a statement issued by his office said.

"AS per the advice of doctors, former PM Atal Bihar Vajpayee has been admitted in AIIMS today for routine check-up and investigations. He will be under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS, there,” the statement read.

Vajpayee, 93, was the first head of government from outside the Congress party to serve a full five-year term, as a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Vajpayee was elected to Lok Sabha from Lucknow in 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004.
