Rahul Gandhi urges people to 'vote wisely'

New Delhi, Apr 11 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi has urged all people to "vote wisely" keeping several issues in mind as the country is voting in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on Thursday.

Rahul took to Twitter to say, "No 2 Crore JOBS. No 15 Lakhs in Bank A/C. No ACCHE DIN. Instead: No JOBS. DEMONETISATION. Farmers in Pain. GABBAR SINGH TAX. Suit Boot Sarkar. RAFALE. Lies. Lies. Lies. Distrust. Violence. HATE. Fear. You vote today for the soul of India. For her future. Vote wisely."

Voting is taking place in 91 seats across 18 states and two union territories.

A total of 142 million people will cast their votes in 170,664 poll booths to decide the fates of 1,279 candidates.

Voting in single phase is taking place in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Uttarakhand, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Telangana.

At the same time, voting is being in held in parts of Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and parts of Odisha are also voting for Assembly polls. 

In the first phase of election, fates of key leaders like  Nitin Gadkari (Nagpur), Kiren Rijiju (Arunachal West), General VK Singh (Ghaziabad), Satyapal Singh (Baghpat) and Mahesh Sharma (Gautam Buddha Nagar). Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh and his son Jayant Chaudhary will be decided.

Voting in the Lok Sabha polls will take place in seven phases this time. 

Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
