Bengaluru, Aug 16 (IBNS): In a bid to reach out to the poorest sections in the city, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday inaugurated the Indira canteen in Bengaluru.

Gandhi was accompanied by Karanataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Around 100 canteens will be run by the state across the city.

The Congress Vice President  stated that the canteen, which is named after former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi, mainly targets the poorest and weakest section of  society. "The canteen is for people like auto drivers, taxi drivers, construction workers, barbers."

The canteen will provide breakfast at Rs 5 while lunch and dinner will be available at Rs 10.

Speaking about the canteen, Gandhi said: " With this canteen, even the weakest and poorest people will feel that they can't go hungry."

The Indira canteens, which are presently limited only to the state capital, will also expand in other cities of the state in future.

The Congress VP stated the quality of food and cleanliness will be maintained in the canteen. "I am proud to say the quality and cleanliness of the canteen will be same as big restaurants."
