Punjab Police have busted a suspected espionage network in Pathankot after arresting a man accused of sharing sensitive information about the Indian Army and paramilitary movements with handlers based in Pakistan.

The accused has been identified as Baljit Singh alias Bittu, a resident of Chakk Dhariwal village.

According to police, Singh had allegedly installed a CCTV camera at a shop near a bridge along the Pathankot-Jammu stretch of National Highway-44 to monitor the movement of security forces.

The surveillance footage was then electronically transmitted to operatives in Pakistan and other foreign locations.

Senior police officer Daljinder Singh Dhillon told NDTV that Singh confessed to the crime during interrogation.

In a post on X, Pathankot Police said, “A CCTV camera along with an internet WiFi router has been recovered during the operation.”

The police further stated: “Pathankot Police remains committed to safeguarding national security and taking strict action against anti-national activities.”

Calling it a major breakthrough, the department added, “Pathankot Police has busted a module linked to national security concerns. One accused has been arrested for installing a CCTV camera whose live feed was being shared with anti-national elements.”

A case has been registered against four individuals. Apart from Baljit Singh, the accused have been identified as Vikramjit Singh alias Vikka, Balwinder Singh alias Vicky, and Taranpreet Singh alias Tannu.

According to reports, raids are currently underway to arrest the remaining accused.
